Practical notes
Getting there and away
Saint-Rémy-en-Bouzemont, Outines and Montmorency-Beaufort have no station; we could confirm no bus on the route. The nearest railway is back at Vitry-le-François.
What the season does
April to October, partial shade. The woods between the ponds give some shelter in summer; in wet weather the tracks can be muddy. Hunting season, from mid-September to the end of February, affects the woods. The Lac du Der, a few kilometres east of Outines but not on the route, draws tens of thousands of cranes in spring and autumn, and visitors with them.
Safety on this stage
Few services between villages, and the ponds and woods make for quiet, sometimes muddy tracks. Walk facing traffic on the D-roads through the villages. In hunting season, from mid-September to the end of February, keep to the marked way in the woods and wear a bright layer.
Water and food
Water is moderate. Saint-Rémy-en-Bouzemont has a pharmacy; OpenStreetMap shows a convenience shop at Chavanges, about 25 km in, and nothing else on the route. Leave with two litres and a full day's food.
Where pilgrims sleep
OpenStreetMap shows no place to stay within 1.5 km of this stage, and nothing at Montmorency-Beaufort but a motorhome area at Chavanges, 3 km away. Campsites and a guest house lie 4 to 6 km off the route towards the Lac du Der, east of Outines. Check the FFVF booklet for pilgrim hosts in Montmorency-Beaufort and ring well ahead; with no listed beds, this is the stage end to arrange first.
