Walk Via Francigena is an independent trail-information platform and online marketplace operated by Pixelo Mobile Ltd. We publish trail guides and a free hiking companion app, and we list independent, licensed tour operators, guides, guesthouses and transfer providers so you can find and contact them. Walk Via Francigena is not a tour operator, travel agent or organiser. We do not sell, run or resell tours, and we are not a party to any booking you make with a provider.
When you book a tour, guide, stay or transfer from a provider listed on Walk Via Francigena, your contract is solely with that provider. The provider sets and collects its own prices, deposits, balances, payment methods and cancellation/refund terms, shown on its listing or supplied by the provider directly. Walk Via Francigena does not take payment for tours, does not hold deposits, sets no cancellation or refund policy, and takes no commission on your booking. Payment is made directly between you and the provider — please review the provider's own terms before booking.
Because your booking contract is with the provider, all changes, cancellations, date transfers and refunds are governed by that provider's terms and handled directly with them. Walk Via Francigena cannot cancel, change or refund a provider's booking and is not responsible for a provider's decision to cancel or alter a trip. If a provider becomes unresponsive, contact us at hello@walkviafrancigena.com and we will try to help you reach them, though we cannot guarantee an outcome.
We strongly recommend that every hiker holds comprehensive travel insurance covering hiking activities, medical emergencies, evacuation and trip cancellation. Some providers may require proof of insurance — check the provider's terms.
The Via Francigena involves long daily distances, steep ascents and descents, rocky paths, road walking and high summer temperatures. You are responsible for ensuring you are in adequate physical condition for any route you undertake, and for meeting any requirements set by a provider you book with. If you have health conditions, seek medical advice and inform your provider before booking.
In these Terms, “the Service” means the Walk Via Francigena website, the Via Francigena Walk app and the related services we provide.
Safety and responsibility. The Service provides trail information and navigation tools. It is not a safety, tracking, monitoring, rescue or emergency service. We do not monitor your location or wellbeing, contact anyone on your behalf or arrange help. You are solely responsible for your own safety and for your decisions to walk. Information in the Service, including content from other users, businesses and automated or AI tools, is general guidance provided “as is” and may be inaccurate, incomplete or out of date. Accommodation, guiding, transfers and tours are supplied by independent businesses, and your contract for them is with that business. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss, damage, injury or death arising from your walking activities or your reliance on the Service. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
Hiking and outdoor activities carry inherent risks. See our separate Hiking Risk Disclaimer for a full explanation. By using our trail information, app or marketplace you acknowledge those risks and accept personal responsibility for your safety. Walk Via Francigena provides information and introductions only and is not responsible for the acts, omissions, services, safety or solvency of any third-party provider, nor for the performance of any tour, accommodation or transfer you book with them. Walk Via Francigena is not liable for injuries, losses or delays caused by factors beyond our reasonable control, including weather, natural events, third-party services or participant actions. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded (e.g. death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or fraud).
When you book a tour, accommodation, transfer, guide or other service from a provider listed on our marketplace, your contract is directly with that provider, not with Walk Via Francigena. Walk Via Francigena's role is limited to listing providers and facilitating introductions — see our Marketplace Terms for detail. The only services Walk Via Francigena sells directly are optional provider listing/subscription plans (to businesses) and our free hiker app — never tours.
Walk Via Francigena services are intended for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the services; accounts are not offered to minors. Any additional minimum age or supervision requirement for a specific tour is set by the provider you book with.
Trail guides, maps, photographs and other content on Walk Via Francigena are owned by or licensed to Pixelo Mobile Ltd and may not be reproduced without permission. Content you submit (stories, reviews, photos, messages) remains yours, but you grant Walk Via Francigena a non-exclusive licence to display it on the platform. Any photography during a tour is a matter between you and your provider.
Some of our platforms include a hiker community and an automated AI assistant that can reply to questions you or other hikers post. AI replies are clearly labelled as AI-generated. They are produced automatically from our official trail data and are grounded only on that data; they do not contain personal information about other users. Community content is written by other hikers, not by us.
Both AI answers and community content are provided for general information only. They are not verified, not guaranteed to be accurate, complete or current, and are not checked by us before an AI reply is generated or before another hiker posts. Trail conditions — including water sources, river crossings, snow and ice, weather, exposure, difficulty and remoteness — change frequently, and any answer may be out of date the moment it is given. Where an answer refers to trail conditions, it reflects what a source or another hiker has reported, not a fact we warrant to be true.
AI answers and community content are not professional, medical, safety, navigational or emergency advice, and must not be relied on as such. They do not replace an up-to-date official guidebook, an official route authority, a paper map and compass, a qualified guide, a medical professional, or local knowledge on the ground. The AI assistant is provided “as is”, requires a mobile signal or internet connection, and will not work where there is no coverage — you must not depend on it in remote areas.
The AI assistant is trail information only. It is not a medical, first-aid or emergency service, and it does not provide medical or emergency advice. It does not monitor your posts in real time and cannot summon help. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services directly — do not rely on the AI assistant or the community. By using our AI or community features you accept personal responsibility for your safety and agree to independently verify any information — especially about water, river crossings, weather, snow and difficult or exposed terrain — from official and current sources before you rely on it. These features are intended for adults (18+), consistent with clause 9.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under English law — including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. Subject to that, and to the maximum extent permitted by law, except where caused by our own negligence, Pixelo Mobile Ltd is not liable for any loss, injury, illness or death arising from your reliance on any AI answer or community content, or from the unavailability, inaccuracy or delay of those features — which, being generated automatically from official and user-reported information about inherently changeable trail conditions, you agree to verify independently before relying on them. Complaints about a tour, stay or transfer should be raised directly with the provider responsible for the service. For complaints about the Walk Via Francigena platform itself, email hello@walkviafrancigena.com and we will respond promptly.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
