Getting there and away
Châteauvillain has no trains; Bricon's substitute bus and Chaumont station are the nearest links. Langres station is on the Paris-Est–Belfort line with TER Grand Est trains to Chaumont, Culmont-Chalindrey, Dijon and Belfort, but it stands about 1.5 km below and south of the walled upper town; a rack railway once made the climb and buses and coaches now serve the station. Allow time for the ascent, or check the local bus at the station.

Forest tracks through Mormant are followed by open plateau and the final climb to the ramparts; in wind and rain the plateau is bleak. D-roads between hamlets: walk facing traffic. Langres's walls have unguarded drops in places; keep to the walkway.
Water and food
Water is moderate. Châteauvillain is the last shop before Langres, thirty kilometres away; the LightFoot guide lists hosts at Mormant and Leffonds on this section but no shops, and the plateau farms have no fountains. Carry two litres and a full lunch, more in July heat. Langres upper town has bakeries, cafés and a supermarket inside the walls, and the parish shelter has a kettle, microwave and fridge, so you can restock for the long stage to Champlitte.
