Getting there and away
Sutri is reached by Cotral bus (the Viterbo–Roma Saxa Rubra line via Vetralla, Capranica, Sutri and Monterosi) or by FL3 train to Capranica–Sutri station and a bus for the last stretch. Campagnano di Roma has no station: the same Cotral line serves it, running from Roma Saxa Rubra via Campagnano and Monterosi to Viterbo, and the association's notes point to the FL3 to Cesano station with a shuttle bus, or Cotral from Rome. Saxa Rubra is on the Cotral/Astral Rome–Viterbo railway to Piazzale Flaminio. Rome Fiumicino is the airport.
What the season does
The stage data give March to June and September to November, shade partial, water moderate. The association rates the day fairly demanding for its length, and the second half through the Roman campagna and the edge of the Veio park is open under umbrella pines: hot in July and August, when you should start at first light. Spring is the season for the Monte Gelato waterfalls detour, which the regional tourism page calls the most scenic part of the stage. Campagnano is on the last 100 km, and its two pilgrim welcomes fill from Easter to October.
Safety on this stage
Road walking is the hazard, and the stage data and the association agree: the route follows and crosses the Via Cassia, with a flagged crossing at roughly km 6.2 near Monterosi where traffic is fast. Walk facing oncoming cars, cross at right angles, and be visible. The tracks through the Veio park are unpaved and muddy after rain. Dogs at farms and the odd flock with guard dogs should be passed calmly.
Water and food
Moderate. The association's notes say water is scarce and available only in inhabited centres — Monterosi is the one village, with a fountain and bars. Fill up in Sutri, refill at Monterosi, and carry enough for the long open stretch to Campagnano, especially in summer. The Monte Gelato waterfalls are a picnic spot, not a water source. Campagnano has fountains and shops in the old centre.

The directory's Campagnano entry, the Ostello di Campagnano (pilgrim hostel), is here at tonight's finish: an association-run hostel midway between Viterbo and Rome that offers dinner and breakfast, luggage transport and an emergency pick-up, and reinvests part of its income in path maintenance. The Oratorio San Giovanni Battista on Via Dante Alighieri is the parish alternative — forty bunk beds, bathrooms and showers but no kitchen, reception from 3 pm, donation basis. Both are listed by the Camminando association for this stage. Book the day before.
